Game #152 - The Silver Lining - Episode 1.

Posted on July 3, 2010 at 9:33 pm.

Earlier I wrote about the fan-made King's Quest sequel being shut down by Activision. Well, the fans protested, and the publisher changed their mind and granted the project a non-commercial license.

Well, today I beat the first episode of The Silver Lining, and will soon write a review. For the rest of you mere mortals the game will be available on July 10th. FOR FREE!!!

That's also the day the reviews will be published, and until then I can't tell you anything else. Cheers!

Game #151 - The Great White Destroyer.

Posted on June 20, 2010 at 9:05 pm.

I just beat The Great White Destroyer. By accident. =) I was taking a break from studying, fired it up and ended up beating it. It's pretty short. You basically control a shark that needs to destroy everything in its path. Not a great piece of gaming art, but then again that was never the aim. It's entertaining in a mindless carnage sort of way, which is good too.

Be as it may, it is now game number 151 on my list.

Game #150 - World of Goo.

Posted on June 17, 2010 at 11:01 pm.

I just beat World of Goo, my game number 150. It is an excellent indie puzzle game, and is sold by the very people who developed it, no annoying publishers and no DRM. Buy it. =)

Also see it on my list of games that I beat. =)

Game #149 - The Witcher.

Posted on June 16, 2010 at 7:15 pm.

I just finished The Witcher.

It is a game based on one of my most favorite book series, by one of my most favorite writers - Andrzej Sapkowski. It it a great role-playing game, and although it does have a few minor issues, they are easily ignored because everything else is excellent.

I'm really glad I was finally able to finish it. It is now listed as game #149 in my list. A big thank you goes to Atari UK for giving me a free DVD copy, and to CDProjekt Red for giving me a serial number so that I could download the extended edition update for it.

New bicycle - Scott Sportster P55.

Posted on June 13, 2010 at 6:32 pm.

My old bicycle, an Aspen Novara, broke. I took it out of storage not long ago, and had a shop tune it up, oil it, etc. It cost me $35, and the moment I took it out I noticed a crack in the frame. Damn it!

Fortunately it was originally bought at REI. A friend of mine bought it for $375 and years later sold it to me for $100. REI has a lifetime warranty on everything they sell, so a bicyclist acquaintance of mine suggested I take it there and see what they say.

Yesterday I did just that. Once in the store, they took a look at the crack and said that it can't be fixed since it's an aluminum one. Instead they offered a full refund. With tax it was $411. The only inconvenience was that my friend who bought it back in 2001 had to come in with me to get the money.

Today we went there together and he got the refund. (Thank you Arthur!) After adding another $200 I bought a new bike - a Scott Sportster P55. I also bought the REI membership for $20, and that means I will get 10% of all my REI purchases back at the end of the year. So far it's gonna be $60.

My new bike has an aluminum frame, disk brakes, and 700c wheels with plush, semislick tires. I think I am going to enjoy it. The only thing that worries me a little is the seat. I suspect it's kind of hard, but I'll give it a shot and see if I like it. A few weeks ago I bought my first ever bicycle helmet, and today my first ever padded bicycle shorts. Hopefully they'll help mitigate the seat.

As of right now I haven't ridden it yet, but I will this week and report back with my findings.

Oh, by the way, I am completely broke now...

Book - Thunder of Victory, Sound.

Posted on June 12, 2010 at 12:08 pm.

The sixths and final book in the series. Hopefully there will be no more. There is nothing at all to it, aside from the "old regime decor" that Akunin is so good at. Everything else is just plain bad.

I must say I have been rather disappointed in Akunin lately. Either he has no more stories to tell, or someone else wrote this, and he just leased his name.
