S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - serious doubts.

So... as I wrote before, I had asked an acquaintance to bring me a copy of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. from Russia. I wanted to play the game in the language that it was made in.
Yesterday the game arrived, although I am yet to pick it up. I think it is some sort of special edition because apparently it comes with a t-shirt and some extra junk.
However, a few days ago I learned that GSC (the developer) illegally used assets from DOOM 3 and Half Life 2. Moreover today I learned that this Russian version uses StarForce of all things.
WTF? I though that crap was out and done with. Apparently the stench we raised was enough to kick SF out of the Western markets, but the ol' commies still use it.
Now I don't know what to do. I sure as hell don't want SF anywhere near my system. I sure as hell don't support that asset thievery (if it is true). On the other hand I paid $30 for this thing and I do want to take a peek at the game.
Oh, what to do, what to do?!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - this coud get ugly.

There are rumors circulating online, that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. used assets from other 3D games such as DOOM 3 and Half Life 2, without any authorization from ID of Valve.

If this turns out to be true... well... I'll share my thoughts on it then.

It's Easter time.
On one hand we get released from work early.
On the other hand there are dumb fucks such as this one, nailing themselves to crosses as a part of "re-enactment".
Ha-ha! Stupid people being tortured, that's quality entertainment if there ever was one. Although they probably enjoy every little bit of it. One guy is doing it for the 21st time. Must be a hard-core masochist.

Command & Conquer 3.

I played the demo and liked it so last night a friend and I went out and got the full game. I got the regular package and he got the Kane Edition, which is basically a special edition type of deal, where for extra $10 you get some extra features.
I didn't have a chance to play a lot, but I got to mission 4 of the GDI campaign. Fun!
I plan on beating all 3 campaigns and then getting into multiplayer. Mammoth tanks FTW! =)

LotRO - first impressions.

Last night I figured out a way to try out the LotRO beta without having to preorder the whole thing for $50. I went to Best Buy and for $10 got myself a pre-order package. If I should like it, I will have to pay the difference when the game comes out. If not, $10 is no skin off my back.
After coming home from the store, I played the game for a few hours before going to sleep. Here are my early impressions:
Uncomfortable and unpolished. They basically attempted to use WoW's interface down to the minor details. This could be a good thing since people who played WoW would be able to jump right in without a steep learning curve. Sadly the lack of that special Blizzard polish is showing in all aspects of the game.
I encountered problems with the camera, problems with controls, problems with the field of view, problems with the user interface, which is so tiny that it is nearly unusable at 1680 x 1050 resolution and many other things. To add insult to injury the game has crashed and left me with a low virtual memory message from Windows. This is the first time something like this has happened, no other game has managed to do this to date.
Now, I am no fanboi of Blizzard's. I canceled my WoW account not long ago and I used to post the longest explanations of what is wrong with WoW. Still one must admit that LotRO is severely lacking in many aspects that WoW used to shine in. Yes, even the graphics one. I can see that technology wise, the graphics are better in LotRO. Sadly they don't look better.
I understand that this is still a beta, but I am having a really hard time finding justifications for many things. Of course I will not give up just yet and will play more in order to get a better look at everything. After all I only have two characters so far and neither of them is above level five. I will post more of my impressions later, after I get a chance to see other classes and higher levels.
