Movie - War.
Posted on August 27, 2007 at 1:42 pm.
Saw it on Sunday. Had fun. The knockers on that one girl were sweet. The Japanese are cool. Jet Li is cool too, when he doesn't play in Chinese propaganda movies.
After the movie we decided to get Japanese food and went to Benihana.

British thought police.

If the police thinks that you are thinking about getting a drink, they can ban you from certain areas of town.
Rock on surveillance state!
I say this is not harsh enough. They should be able to either shoot you on that suspicion or at least put you in jail for life.

Another Witcher article published.
Posted on August 24, 2007 at 10:22 am.
Today's front page of realworldgamer.com has my write-up of the second interview I had with Michal Madej, a chief designer of the Witcher. We met at Gen Con 2007 and had a very interesting conversation about the game and related issues.
I am also hosting the full text of it on this site, and you can find it right here.

British nationalized healthcare.
Posted on August 23, 2007 at 5:23 pm.
A woman had to deliver her own baby in the toilet of a flagship British hospital because there was no trained staff available.
Fucking woo-hoo for socialism!!!
Read the whole article here and be appalled. Oh, and if you are one of those who are pushing for nationalized "free" health care in our country, know that this WILL happen to YOU or someone you care about.

Mexican senate = pigs.
Posted on August 23, 2007 at 1:15 pm.
According to this article, the Mexican senate has passed a resolution urging their president to send the US a note protesting a deportation of Elvira Arellano.
What the fuck?! What's wrong with those useless, retarded pukes? The hypocrisy is simply startling. Mexico deals with their illegal aliens in a pretty damn harsh way. Sure enough they dare to raise a stench over us deporting our own illegal aliens.
That Elvira Arellano bitch, was hiding in a church for a year after she was supposed to be deported. And now she says that it was the US that broke the law first. What a shameless scumbag! I guess it is the fault of the US that she decided to jump the fence.
I am very glad that she is finally out of here. And I spit at the Mexican government that endorses and supports the criminal acts of their citizens against a neighboring state.

Korea according to my sister - 5.
Posted on August 21, 2007 at 11:32 am.
Here is some more insight into the Korean culture:
Remember how you sent me a message titled "North Korea is better" to make my neighbors angry? Well, that was weak because who they all really hate is Japan. Every student (and teacher) has a story to share about grandpa's friend who got killed during the occupation or has seen a movie about some such thing. They are all (without exception) able to describe various methods of torture performed by the Japanese in vivid detail. When words fail them, they draw pictures on the board. Most of them claim to hate Japanese food, films and music. Strange because there are Japanese restaurants everywhere and Korea is one of the biggest markets for the Japanese pop music.
I was asked several times by fellow young teachers as well as people that I've met in bars about what is cool in America as far as other cultures go. In my first week (before I became a wise pro in Korean relations) I mentioned Japanese Manga a few times. That saddened and discouraged many people. No really! They wouldn't become angry or argumentative - just sad. I hope I am not responsible for any suicides. Most want to know if Korea is cool (or as they put it "sexy") in the US and what it can do to become more "sexy". I don't know what to tell them... Any thoughts? How can Korea become more cool? The truth is that before they offered me lots of money and free housing, I've never given South Korea much thought. It's the same with most people I know.
Japan has a lot of original music that actually appears at the European and American festivals. Korea tries very hard to copy American music (which the Koreans consider cool and alternative). It seems, though, that they only pay attention to and thus copy the poppiest pop. Also, I noticed in Hong Kong that even though they sell a lot of western products, the models in the adverts are Asian. Not so in Korea. Even for 100% Korean stuff, the models are mostly (though not always) white.
Cheers
Moi

Bioshock demo.
Posted on August 21, 2007 at 9:26 am.
Yesterday the PC demo of Bioshock was released. Of course everyone and their grandma was downloading it. Of course even the fastest servers were slowed down to a crawl. Of course I had to download it too.
Well, 1.8Gb and over 5 hours later (I have a fast connection but every single server I know was pretty much overrun) I was able to install it and dive right in. It was 1:20 AM and I knew I had to wake up at 7:00 AM.
No problem, anything for this game.
In retrospect I should have just gone to sleep. I wasn't that impressed with the demo. Ok, so it's a shooter with eerie voices and the ability to rummage through garbage for valuable loot. I see how Bioshock can be a fun game to play. But so far I am not sure what caused all those raving reviews.
Maybe I am wrong and I will change my mind later.
The setting is pretty weird. You survive a plane crash and swim to a lighthouse, inside which you find a bathyscaphe, which you ride to an underwater city. Personally, if I survived a plane crash, I would NOT take 20 hours out of my busy schedule to explore ancient machinery that would most likely get me drowned. Maybe it's just me though.
Another thing that I don't understand (and find quite annoying to boot) is that the demo is only like 15-20 minutes long. WTF? Why a nearly 2Gb download then?
One thing I liked is the use of bright colors. People need to start using more of those in games. The only shooter I remember to have ever used nice, saturated colors is Shogo: MAD, so it's good to see a game with real reds, yellows, blues AND greens for a change. On the other hand I could not find the anti-aliasing settings, which felt kinda weird.
Overall, the demo looks like it's gonna be a good game, but not exactly the holy grail of gaming.
