Most taxed.

Crook County, Hellinois. Chicago is now officially the most taxed city in the nation. We are above 10% sales tax. Woo-hoo!
I hope the socialist cocksucker Stroger gets run over by something fast and heavy.
In fact I'd say any public official in Hellinois needs to be hung on a street-light. I am so out of here in a few years.

Russian presidential election.
Posted on March 2, 2008 at 10:58 am.
Apparently my old Russian passport is good for one thing other than collecting dust. It lets me participate in a cynical, staged production that, due to some tragic mistake, is called an "election" in Russia.
My vote will not matter, because in Russia a president is appointed (like in Cuba,) rather than elected. Still, I'd like to vote against Putin's puppet, if only to feel good about myself.
This farce makes me appreciate the US so much more. Even though I like neither candidate in our own presidential race, I rejoice in the fact that we still have no idea who is going to win and that these politicians campaign for real and try to win people's votes for real.
Update:
Ok I voted. There were 4 candidates:
- Dmitry Medvedev - Putin's puppet
- Gennady Zyuganov - Communist
- Vladimir Zhirinovsky - Nationalist / Evil Clown
- Andrei Bogdanov - A complete nobody
So... I voted for Bogdanov. I don't know diddly squat about him, but he is not Medvedev, not Zyuganov and not Zhirinovsky, and that is good enough for me.

Dell hates Linux.
Posted on February 29, 2008 at 2:12 pm.
We had a bunch of old Dells stored in the basement at work. We wanted to get rid of them by donating. First we had to wipe them clean though.
Today I had my minion bring them upstairs and try to run XUbuntu from a CD. If successful he was supposed to install it and make sure that all the old stuff was gone.
A few minutes ago he came to me and showed me a bunch of shards. That's what was left of the XUbuntu CD I made for him.
Have you ever tried to break a CD? It's tough! How the hell did it happen? A force like that shouldn't even exist inside a computer.
Conclusion: Dell OptiPlex GX200 really hates Linux.

Stupid.

This article is the highlight of my day.
"Two masked and machete-wielding men who barged into a club in Sydney, Australia, couldn't have picked a worse night for their robbery -- a monthly meeting of bikers."

How to be a bitter and sore loser.

How to be a bitter and sore loser - a six step guide:
Step 1) Working long and hard.
Step 2) Spectacular failure.
Step 3) Not learning anything.
Step 4) Coming up with creative ways to blame everybody but yourself.
Step 5) Blaming everybody but yourself.
Step 6) Feeling better about yourself.
Why am I writing this? Well I just happened to see this forum post by Michael Fitch about the shutting down of Iron Lore Studios. He blames the pirates, the hardware manufacturers, the "stupid" audiences and the reviewers.
You know why he does that? Because throwing tantrums is a mature thing to do when your business fails. It also helps recover a part of your investment.

Copycat effect.

Those of you who think that the random and senseless attacks known as "school shootings" are possible only because of availability of firearms will be interested in looking at this website.
It lists "school stabbings" in Asia, while the comments mention more of the same in Britain and Canada.
No firearms are involved yet the results are absolutely identical. This serves to prove that whose who want to kill and hurt random people are just as successful with cutlery as they are with guns. So guns are not the problem, psychos are.

I want a game.
Posted on February 25, 2008 at 10:26 pm.
I have a house full of games and nothing to play. So I sat down and tried to figure out the game I feel like playing right now. First I went through existing genres and decided that they aren't what I am looking for. Second, I decided to list the features I want this game to have. Here is what I came up with:
- it should be a roleplaying game with characters stats/skills but no levels
- i don't care if it has any graphics/sound at all (probably better off without them)
- it should be dialog heavy (more so than Planescape: Torment)
- stats/skills should affect conversations and give extra dialog options
- it should have political or interpersonal intrigue and lots of it
- it should also have treachery and double talk and all that
So... anyone know of such a game?
P.S. - Please don't offer me to enter the political arena.

American Airlines.

Just came across this article.
A woman is dying on board of an AA flight. The flight attendant refuses to give her oxygen. The woman is begging "Please don't let me die!" Passengers demand that she is helped. Finally an oxygen tank is brought, but it is empty. Another is brought and it is empty as well. A defibrillator is applied and it doesn't work. The woman dies.
I am flying AA for a business trip in a few weeks.
HELP!!!
Update: Now there is this article. AA made a statement saying that the oxygen tanks were working, that the crew acted appropriately and that help was provided right away.
Curiously, the doctor, who was on board and pronounced the woman dead, has declined to comment.

Game #121 - Call of Duty 4.
Posted on February 24, 2008 at 12:28 pm.
Just finished Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It is now on my list under number 121.
Wow! What an awesome game! The graphics are breath-taking, the sounds - brilliant, the animations - fantastic, the levels - gorgeous.
Oh, and you get to kill Russians and Arabs. The CoD series has FINALLY abandoned the WWII setting. I am overjoyed, because I swear, if I am given another WWII game, I am going to throw up. I am thoroughly sick of it! There were other wars too, you know?
Anyway, I don't remember the last time I have seen anything nearly as well made. This game is perfect in my opinion. I recommend it to everyone!
