Nightwish concert.

Yesterday was THE most spectacular day ever! We went to a Nightwish concert at the House of Blues in Chicago.
We took a Metra train downtown, which is something that I have never done in my 14 years of living in Chicago. =) So it was a first, and I kinda liked it.
Before the concert we stopped at a Thai restaurant nearby, and the food was awesome. I thought I didn't like Thai food, but I must have been at a bad restaurant before.
After we were done, we went to look for the entrance to the HoB, and were amazed at the amount of people that gathered there. There was a line forming at the entrance, which went all the was across the Chicago river and past Dearborn and Wacker. Thousands of headbangers! Sweet!

We finally entered, and according to a friend the House of Blues has NEVER been that packed. We grabbed a really good place where we could see everything from and it was close to the bar too.
I usually dread the opening bands and I did this time. However, I was overjoyed when Sonata Arctica ran out and began playing! What could be better than one of your two favorite bands opening for another?!

They played for about an hour and it was AWESOME! The show was better than their standalone concert last year! They sang all our favorite songs and even some old ones that they never sing at concerts!
Finally Nightwish came out.
They played for an hour and a half and sang lots of songs from their new album, and some others. People were going wild. Of course people will still miss Tarja, but never-the-less I think the concert was an overwhelming success!
Speaking of that, Annette was really nice, and even after the whole band left she stayed behind and signed autographs for people. She has none of that prima donna act, which is a good thing I think.

I even went as far as getting myself a Nightwish t-shirt. =)
After the concert we walked around downtown for half an hour, then got back to the Union Station and took the 12:20 train home.
Woot!!!

BFKG: no hotels for soldiers.
Posted on September 4, 2008 at 10:26 pm.
Britain Formerly Known as Great:
A wounded soldier who came to town for a funeral of a friend killed in action was refused a hotel room. Apparently the hotel does not allow members of the military to stay. The veteran of many wars slept in his car.
His mother had the following to say:
"I'm very, very angry. It's discrimination. They would never get away with it if it was against someone of ethnic origin.
In America, they treat soldiers as heroes. We went to Disney World with Tomos and the whole family was moved to the front of the lines. Everybody was clapping and cheering. Here, soldiers can't even get a bed for the night."

Palin's acceptance speech.
Posted on September 4, 2008 at 1:26 pm.
Just read the whole thing.
You know, after both candidates picked their VPs, I am now leaning heavily towards voting for McCain. I don't dislike him any less than before, just as I don't dislike Obama any more than before. It's just that the combination of McCain/Palin is much, much less offensive to me than the combination of Obama/Biden.

Protests and such.

How come those who protest the Democratic convention don't riot, smash police cars and otherwise damage property?
How come those who protest the Republican convention - riot, smash police cars, set things on fire, throw garbage at passing cars, break road signs and so on?

Biggest immigration raid ever.
Posted on August 27, 2008 at 9:29 am.
So far my day is going well.
600 illegal aliens were arrested in Mississippi factory today, making it the biggest raid to date. Of course there is much crying and complaining, but that's a good thing in this case.
So far no company executives were arrested, but they say the investigation continues, and I hope the scumbags get their due once the arrested workers are interrogated.

On trolling.

This is from today's featured article on the Encyclopedia Dramatica:
This week, while Russia trolled Georgia, Tibet trolled China. China trolled England. England trolled Spain, who were already trolling China. Protestfags trolled police, police trolled journalists and the government trolled little girls. And America? Well, America just LOL'd.

Polygamy causes longer life.

According to a new research, men live longer in polygamous cultures. Ha, I could have told you that without any research. Naturally those with higher quality of life live longer.
I imagine this works for swinging as well.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by dictatorship." - Alexander Fraser Tytler (1747-1813)
