Pelosi. Dumb and Dumber-er.

Posted on February 4, 2009 at 10:45 am.

Nancy Pelosi said that "Five hundred million Americans lose jobs every month."

Is it just me or is it a little bit sad that the speaker of the house has no idea how many people live in a country that she supposedly represents.

Reminds me of red marshal Tukhachevskiy.

Sargent flees Russia to Georgia.

Posted on January 28, 2009 at 12:33 pm.

This guy, a Sargent in the Russian army in South Osetia, has fled to Georgia at night and begged to be given refuge.

The first thing he asked for was to be fed.

The he told a bunch of things about the Russian army, none of them surprising in the least. He was starved, hasn't taken a shower for a month and was beaten regularly.

The Russian ministry of defense now demands him back. They claim he was kidnapped and brainwashed.

Source is here, but it's in Russian. It's got a bunch of pictures and videos of the guy though.

Obama's inauguration.

Posted on January 20, 2009 at 10:22 am.

So today Obama becomes president. Most people around me are psyched, happy, excited, hopeful, etc. They are telling each other things like "Yes we can!" and "Finally, change!" Lots of people are going to DC to stand in a huge crowd in the cold to watch the coronation inauguration. The amount of money that is being spent on this passion play is unreal. I guess it's OK though, because as soon as Obama takes office, he is going to snap his fingers and fix the economy.

Most things that people seem to believe about the situation and the man, can be easily filed under "weird beliefs" category. Personally, I was not impressed by either Obama or McCain. From the very beginning I said that whichever one of them wins - I will lose, so I voted for someone else. This is to show that I don't hate Obama out of principle, as some McCain supporters do, who think the world is about to end.

Myself, I simply remain skeptical. Sure, I hope that this guy is going to do great, for my own sake. I don't wish for him to fail. With that said, aside from all the talk about "hope" and "change" I have seen no proof that Obama is about to "save us all." I'm sorry to rain on your parade folks, but I like empirical evidence better than hearsay. I guess I'm a quirky old fool like that.

Hoping that one man will deliver you is idiocy. Sure he is going to smile and shake hands with some foreign leaders. But do you really think he will (or can) pay your mortgage? Do you think he will (or can) prevent your company from going under so that you keep your job? Do you think he is going to remove crooks from your local or state government? Sort your mail? Water your plants? Feed your fish?

Yes, change is possible. It can happen when a nation is willing to make it happen by changing themselves and then busting their asses. So far, however, I only see people who are willing to elect someone to do it for them. And this is why the whole thing is going to be a sad, gloomy failure.

Russian human rights lawyer killed.

Posted on January 19, 2009 at 6:24 pm.

Some of you may remember, a while ago there was this piece of news from Russia, where an army officer strangled to death an 18-year old Chechen girl suspected of being a sniper. He was put behind bars, but released in record time because according to the authorities "he repented."

Well, today brings us more traditional Russian antics.

The lawyer who represented the girl's family was outraged at this, as were some other descent people. He put together a press conference telling reporters that he planned to appeal the officer's release.

Shortly after that he was shot to death. The weapon used was a pistol with a silencer. A reporter was murdered alongside of him.

"Investigators say that they are examining several possible theories as to the motive for Mr Markelov's killing, including the possibility that it was linked to his professional activities."

Game #124 - Spore.

Posted on January 18, 2009 at 2:22 am.

It is past 1 o'clock at night and I just finished Spore. It will be number 124 in the list of the games I beat.

It has been a long while since I beat a game. In fact, I only finished five games in 2008, and not a single one since April. This is because I spent most of my time playing the sort of games that can't ever be finished, such as World of Warcraft.

Well, I just beat Spore! Technically it never ends, but as far as I am concerned, getting to the final cut scene constitutes beating it.

Overall I am a bit conflicted on this title. It has a lot of fun parts, but it also had many tedious ones. It's often cute and funny, but just as often is it annoying. Difficulty-wise it's never just right, instead it's either too easy or two hard.

Still, I enjoyed it for the most part. I am also glad I finally got another one down. It's been too long.

Here's to my first game of 2009! =)

Windchills in -50s.

Posted on January 16, 2009 at 9:34 am.

It is so fucking cold!

Chicago area temperatures go as low as -50 degrees Fahrenheit if you count the windchill effect. That would be -45.5 Celsius.

Technical problem.

Posted on January 14, 2009 at 5:36 pm.

This is an actual problem that I encountered today. I appreciate any suggestions. However, please don't suggest for him to ship the computer to me, because it is an obvious solution and I already thought of it. The point is to try and somehow avoid it if possible.

There is a man who bought a Dell
Because his old computer fell,
And on his Dell he must connect
To our domain through Internet.

But on a bridge there is a troll
Because we have a firewall.
To get across he needs a LAN
So he connects through VPN.

Yet when he joins our domain
It seems his efforts are in vain,
For once he's on, he must restart
And here is where it falls apart.

He cannot make it through a gate
Because it won't authenticate.
To check his password, once again,
He needs to be on VPN.

And, since he isn't yet logged in
The chance of that is rather slim.
So how can he escape the curse
And get the access he deserves?

Some people don't learn. They are the kind whose genes need to be removed from the gene pool.
