The Path prologue.

I downloaded the demo (prologue) of The Path and was left unimpressed. It is boring, unpretty, the controls and the camera suck and overall I don't see why anyone would waste their time and money on this.
Now, I do firmly believe that games are art. However, just because this is an "indie game" doesn't make it good and doesn't make it art. Same goes for film.

SLI problems.
Posted on June 10, 2009 at 9:38 am.
Ever since I got my video cards replaced, I was unable to set up SLI. I tried all sorts of tricks, and a dozen different driver versions. I also flashed the BIOS on the motherboard and one of the cards. Still nothing.
What happens is the drivers get installed for both cards, and then when I go to nVidia control panel to enable SLI, the screen blinks and the drivers are gone, plus one of the cards is disabled with an error code 43. There's more to it but I wont go int detail.
Fortunately it looks like XFX support was able to help me find the problem. For some reason both cards have a different firmware version. This is odd, since it was XFX support that told me to flash one of the cards. Still, as long as they are able to provide me with the firmware version to equalize both video cards, I think I should be able to set up SLI.
This is especially important right now, since my new resolution of 2560x1600 demands much more GPU power than by previous one of 1650x1080.

Yara, as she was photographed over at Playboy. This picture though was taken by me when she came back from her shoot. =)

Big technology post.
Posted on May 29, 2009 at 10:32 am.
I've been neglecting my duty to chronicle my adventures in the world of technology, so here is a cumulative update:
1) XFX is awesome!
One of my GeForce 8800 GTXs died on me. Fortunately I bought it from XFX. I sent my card in, they tested it and found it faulty. So they said they will replace it with a GeForce 9800 GTX. This, however, would have been a problem, since I have two identical video cards, which I run in SLI (that means they are connected to each other.) I told this to XFX support and they offered to replace my other 8800 as well, even though it was in perfect working order. Free! How awesome is that?
2) My RAM doubled.
I only had 2Gb, and since I am not running a 64-bit OS, I decided it's time to upgrade. So I bought 2 more Gb of the same RAM. When it arrived, it turned out that it although it was the same series, it was a different batch and the voltages were different. So it didn't work with mine. Also one of the sticks was dead and the other likely damaged. So I sent them back, and instead bought a 4Gb kit and now am running with it.
3) Android G1 phone.
It was time to upgrade my old MDA, and after looking at Arthur's and Brandon's G1s, I decided that this is what I want. So I went and got it. T-Mobile made me sign a 2-year extension to my contract, but it's ok because I wasn't planning on leaving them anyway. I am very happy with the phone so far. I love how it integrates with my Google account, I love the apps and I love the design. iPhone doesn't even compare, since G1 has a replaceable battery, a full qwerty keyboard and a removable storage card, not to mention a trackball in addition to everything that an iPhone has.
4) Humongous 30" monitor.
I got a Dell UltraSharp 3008WFP, and it is a gigantic beast of a monitor! The resolution is 2560x1600, which creates problems when trying to find a good wallpaper. Porn is also too small. Still, I love having so much screen space. Going form 22" to 30" is definitely noticeable.

Yay diversity.

This is a future Supreme Court Justice speaking:
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male..."
Unbe-fucking-lievable!
You can call it diversity, I call it a racist, sexist bitch.

Surgery update.
Posted on May 20, 2009 at 11:33 am.
Today's exactly one week since my surgery and I am almost back to normal, all that scary black snot notwithstanding.
On Friday I had plastic splints taken out of my nose, which allowed me to breathe finally. Since then, I've been able to sleep, although still not as well, and began improving overall.
This morning I went to the doctor again, and he took more plastic out, that I didn't know I had. He also said that the sinuses can hold about a cup of blood, and that it will take a while for all of it to drain. So apparently I'm not bleeding now, it's just old blood that's coming out and mixing with mucus. According to the doctor in about 4 to 6 weeks I should be fine.
Speaking of fine, thank you to everyone who came by and helped, and called, and wrote, and cooked! I appreciate it very much!

Yup, almost a year has passed and the Russians have once again violently broken up an attempted gay parade in Moscow.
Here is this year's story: source.
And here is the same thing from last year: source.

Bloody hell.
Posted on May 13, 2009 at 11:16 pm.
I am lying in my bed. Well, half-sitting actually. That's what the nurse said I should do. My nose hurts, my head hurts, my throat hurts, swallowing hurts, and breathing hurts too. I am, however, bleeding without a problem.
Just got home from the hospital, where I was cut, drilled, etc.
This morning I arrived there as scheduled, at 11:15 AM. The surgery was supposed to start at 12:50 PM. It actually started at 3:50 PM. At that time all I could think about was food, because I didn't eat or drink starting at 12:00 AM last night.
Right now I'm not so hungry.
As I'm writing this, I feel blood steadily flowing from my nose. Feels unpleasant.
I think I should see a psychologist. People are supposed to be afraid of surgery. It bothers me that the only thing I felt was annoyance at being inconvenienced. I'm not trying to be macho. Yara noticed it too and was equally weirded out by my complete lack of fear. It isn't healthy.
Yara was with me all day even though she didn't have to. She is really sweet and awesome.
Ok, head hurts worse now. I'm waiting for Yara to come back with Vicodin. I'm gonna be more like House. Right now I'm just intelligent and an asshole, but soon I'll be on Vicodin too.
Gonna put ice on my head. Will check in later.
